Workers Saved From Performing Hazardous Operation with Installation of Easy Arm

“This is the first new ergonomic device I installed that no one complained about, I received nothing but positive feedback” - End Customer's comment

Tooling changes in this work cell were originally made manually by operators who would have to crawl into the machine in order to get the necessary leverage to change out the tooling.  As you can imagine, this was very hazardous operation for the workers.

Now the tooling can be changed more quickly with no safety hazards to the operators.  Learn more about this application and how you could benefit from this Gorbel product in your facility.

No More Twisted Cable With Swivel Feature on G-Force® 660 lb. Q and iQ Units...

A twisted coil is one of the common problems with any lifting device that has a pneumatic or electric coil around the wire rope or chain connecting the control pendant to the hoist.  This twisting eventually results in damage to the coil which causes failure and downtime. The end result is lost productivity and increased maintenance costs.

A new feature of the Q and iQ design is the G360™, an integrated collector and air swivel assembly.  The G360™ swivel assembly allows the handle of the G-Force® to rotate without twisting the coil cord in applications where the operator is continuously rotating the handle. The G360™ collector/air swivel accommodates the coil cord cable, the optional input/output module (iQ model only) signals, and the air power for end effector tooling. The G360™ attaches to end tooling with an optional kit when the control handle is remote mounted.

Question from End CustomerWe are restructuring one of the workstations in our plant that currently has a Gorbel workstation crane and G-Force® BX300 unit with the float mode option. Up until now we could always lift the castings from the bins and move them into the milling station and never have to move outside the coverage area of the crane system. Under the new layout we may have to lift at a 30 degree angle in order to empty the incoming bins completely. Will this pose any problem for our G-Force®? I know Gorbel recommends lifting at no more than 20 degrees from vertical repeatedly.

Response: You are correct in regard to not lifting at angles that exceed 20 degrees on a repeated basis.  The G-Force® is designed to handle infrequent lifts with fleet angles up to 20 degrees.  An occasional lift probably will not harm anything.  However, repeatedly lifting at excess angles can cause several internal components to wear prematurely and possibly impact the life expectancy of the wire rope.  In order to maximize the performance of both your Gorbel G-Force® and crane system we recommend you modify your layout so the bins of castings are completely within the coverage area of the crane.  This will allow you to lift all your parts with the G-Force® directly over the load, eliminating repeated lifting at an angle which will maximize the performance of your Gorbel system and minimize downtime and repair costs.  Your Gorbel distributor is experienced in tackling tricky application layout issues like the one you describe.  Give them a call, they will be glad to help you find the best solution.
