    When I say “China copycat”, what do you think of? Do you wonder what I’m talking about? Or do you nod your head and cite an example of a Chinese company violating the intellectual property (IP) of another company? I believe there is general mindset that Chinese copycats are no surprise.

    As I fly back from a recent trip to China, I reflect. Gorbel is in the midst of its annual Strategic Planning season; an exercise that always energizes my spirit as well as simultaneously stresses me out. Part of the “planning” process is all about looking back at the last year and assessing how our business performed relative to expectations. And what seems to be a given is that each year a million unexpected curveballs entered the picture that needed to be dealt with.

    By now, many of you have probably seen the massive explosion in TEDA, Tianjin at the Bin Hai Port in China yesterday. According to CNN, at least 50 people lost their lives in the blast, including 12 firefighters, and hundreds more are hospitalized.
