Tether Track™ Provides a Safe Outdoor Fall Protection
|
Industry: Manufacturing Product: Access equipment The Problem: Employees at risk of falling while loading flatbed trucks. The Solution: A Gorbel Custom Free Standing Tether Track System; 5-bay monorail system(s) share the same large W-Beam headers so there’s limited interference from support columns. |
|
When a company openly states “The best safety device is a safe worker” you know
they take safety very seriously. With a safe solution needed to solve their
problem, one that didn't slow down their efforts to load the flatbeds, the
custom Gorbel Tether Track™ System was chosen. It allows for multiple trucks as
well as multiple users to work on all flatbeds from a system that straddles the
loading area. Watch the video and download the pdf on our website... |

Maximum Arresting Force (or M.A.F.) is a term
you will hear frequently used in association
with fall protection, so it’s better to
understand the term before you encounter it (if
you’ve already encountered it, better late than
never!). In simple terms, M.A.F. is exactly what
it sounds like: the maximum amount of force
produced on your body as your fall is being
arrested. |
A Gorbel Tether Track™ Fall Protection System is
certainly not a “one size fits all” type of
solution. Every fall protection scenario is
different and it’s is rare to have a
standardized system that will fit most
applications. |

Fall hazards top OSHA's violation list
A worker painting an electric maintenance tower comes in contact with an energized power line and falls 70 feet – striking a second employee working on a lower level and causing him to fall as well. The first man dies. The second survives, but suffers serious injuries. Neither was provided with functional fall equipment by his employer.
This incident is just one of many in OSHA’s case files that illustrate why the agency takes its fall protections standards so seriously – and why they were the most-cited in 2015. Falls are common and, too often, fatal. They are the top cause of work-related deaths in the construction industry, and occur frequently in other industries as well. Read the article...

Working at Height: Fall Protection Safety Starts with the Correct
Equipment
Tempting as it may seem in the “real world,” fall protection choices
should never be influenced by convenience alone.
By Tom Dillon
Jul 01, 2016
Falls are the leading cause of death and injury in construction. Of the
828 workplace deaths in private construction during 2013, the Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS) reported that 36 percent were caused by falls from height.1
Equally troubling is that fall protection is again the Occupational Safety &
Health Administration’s (OSHA) most frequently cited standard in work site
inspections.

The Top 10 Misuses of Fall Protection Equipment
Craig Galecka, P.E., CSP, for LJB Inc., along with Shawn Smith, CSP, U.S.
Navy, led an afternoon session at day two of the ASSE Safety 2016 show
discussing fall protection. In classic Letterman-style, the duo organized the
presentation into a top ten list, discussing the most common fall protection
equipment misuses.
Jun 29, 2016
In the order of presentation, here they are:
1. Rebar snap hooks
a. Snap hooks aren't intended for loading, so Galecka and Smith recommend using
anchorage connections.
2. Inappropriate Anchorage Strength
a. Most lanyards are not tiebacks, and using them as such can result in
equipment damage.
b. Using a beam strap or beam clamp that is designed as an anchorage connector
can alleviate this problem.
