Fall Arrest: Insights and Ideas for Workplace Compliance
How to engineer the right solution for you

Maximum Arresting Force (or M.A.F.) is a term you will hear frequently used in association with fall protection, so it’s better to understand the term before you encounter it (if you’ve already encountered it, better late than never!). In simple terms, M.A.F. is exactly what it sounds like: the maximum amount of force produced on your body as your fall is being arrested.

Gorbel, turned to several industry experts to help clarify some of these issues. The complete findings, and potential solutions, are found in the ebook, "Fall Arrest: Insights and Ideas for Workplace Compliance," This article provides a summary of common issues, as well as solutions.

Tether Track™ Featured at NSC Show Back in October

This year, Gorbel® featured our Tether Track™ product at the Nation Safety Council trade show in Anaheim California, October 17-19, 2016. It was our fifth time attending the NSC trade show, and we have always seen great success. We shipped material all the way cross country to fill a 20’ x 30’ booth that included a freestanding monorail system, showcasing our different track styles and profiles, a swing arm, and our new Road Ranger Mobile Anchor system. We also highlighted our Recover Trolley, a fall arrest trolley that locks into place in the event of a fall.

The show consisted of over 1,000 different vendors and manufacturers, from hard hats to safety gloves, safety consulting firms to fall protection providers. As we typically do, our booth saw quite a bit of traffic, with a lot of focus on the Ranger unit that was showcased. We also were able to catch up with some of our industry colleagues and see what other new and exciting products are hitting the fall protection world.

Next year we’ll be in Indianapolis September 25-27, 2017 but come see us before then when we exhibit in Denver Colorado, June 19-22, 2017 at the American Society of Safety Engineers trade show. We are looking forward to a successful, safe 2017!

How to Address Safety Concerns With Your Employer

It’s inevitable. If you are a safety-conscious worker, you will at some point in your career be faced with the task of presenting a safety concern to your employer. If you’ve been given this responsibility, or if your company is truly supportive of safety efforts, then it’s easy. However, not everybody is lucky enough to be in those situations. Some employers are dismissive of safety concerns at best, and hostile toward those who bring them up at worst. So, what’s the best way to bring safety issues to your employer’s attention?

The answer will, of course, depend on the nature of the hazard you are reporting. If it’s not an immediate danger, you have flexibility in how you approach your boss. However, if the safety issue is an immediate danger and somebody’s life or well-being is on the line, then you need to act accordingly. In that situation, the best thing to do would be to make an attempt to get the employee exposed to the hazard, out of the situation first. Deal with the consequences once they are safe, but waiting to get a supervisor if they are not immediately available could be the difference between life and death.
