Description :

The Fabrication/Mechanical Assembly Resource Manager will oversee all production activities of the Fabrication and Mechanical Assembly departments at all Elmira manufacturing plants. This will involve managing all associated operations including facilities, equipment, and people, while liaising with appropriate Managers to ensure materials, quality of products and services, safety, and designs meet or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities :

  • Safety
    • Champion and model proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting, developing, implementing, and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury-free workplace
  • Production
    • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate all operations of the fabrication and mechanical assembly departments, including all necessary work instructions, paperwork, and process flows
    • Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labour, and equipment to meet production targets
    • Plan labour requirements, supervise and train or oversee training of employees in the use of new equipment or production techniques to complete assigned tasks and obtain an effective, efficient flow of work
    • Plan and manage departmental budgets and production schedules
    • Run pre-production meetings to ensure strong communication amongst all production teams
    • Plan and implement changes to processes, production systems, methods of work, and machinery and equipment
    • Develop maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities, and recommend and necessary upgrades or replacements
    • Drive engagement by creating a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives
    • Develop team members by supporting professional development, providing regular feedback to promote the utilization of best practices, and completing annual and bi-annual performance reviews
    • Collaborate by building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
    • Implement and maintain quality assurance protocols
    • Ensure inventory of raw materials and finished products are accurate and maintained
    • Monitor and manage employee relations in combination with HR including but not limited to; employee absenteeism and tardiness, complaints and issues, misdemeanor, insubordination, breach of company policies, etc. to ensure goals and objectives of the Plant are being met

Required Qualifications :

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role in a manufacturing environment of standard and/or customized product. Experience with welding/fabrication/mechanical assembly or automation preferred
  • Understands and can implement and ensure operational KPI’s are met (productivity, quality, waste reduction, safety, downtime)
  • Mechanically inclined with problem solving skills
  • Above average computer knowledge, specifically in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (specifically with Microsoft NAV and/or Infor Syteline)
  • Possession and maintaining valid driver’s license for occasional business travel

Preferred Skills :

  • JHSC certification Part 1 and 2
  • Experience or certification with Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma
  • Experience with material handling equipment an asset
  • Ability to read specifications and blueprint drawings

Work Environment :

  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand (75%); walk (20%); stoop, kneel or crouch (5%), as required.
  • Able to wear safety glasses and foot protection throughout shift.
  • Able to wear hearing protectors (ear plugs) throughout the shift while working in an environment with moderate noise levels.
