Jim Stockmaster is our Director of Product Development and has been with us at Gorbel for 25 years! As Director of Product Development, Jim focuses on our Software Engineering and Product Development teams delivering results, developing our team members, communicating and collaborating with other departments and leaders to ensure alignment, and thinking about where we want to be and need to be in the future, and leveraging that to inform our plans.

Outside of his life at Gorbel, Jim lives on Lake Ontario with his wife of 37 years, Adele and his 9-year-old grandson, Carson, who Adele and Jim have been raising for 8 out of his 9 years. He also loves karate and cycling. Jim’s role model is his father, because he was a modest, hardworking man who was committed to his faith, his family, his job, and to helping others; Jim aspires to be more like him.

Jim’s favorite part of his job is the opportunity to work with and learn from so many talented people – with an emphasis on values and behaviors, not just results.  “I have a lot of respect and admiration for the wonderful people around me,” says Jim. Throughout 25 years there have been a lot of memories made, but some of Jim’s favorite memories include being a part of the origins of CraneBrain® and the team that took the G-Force® from a “prototype unit” to a robust, reliable, market leading product in the Q/iQ. “I am also happy to be a part of the growth of so many people who have either grown in responsibility at Gorbel or moved on to growth opportunities in other organizations,” Jim explains. “I see both results as a win.”

Throughout his life and his 25 years at Gorbel, Jim has met plenty of people who have been mentors to him. “I’ve been fortunate to know a lot of people who’ve influenced me and helped me along the way – from my Dad who contributed to many of the positive things that I am, to my first supervisor in industry that modelled for me how to treat people you supervise, to many people at Gorbel who’ve helped me by providing me opportunities and feedback to help me grow,” Jim states. “I am blessed.”

Happy 25th anniversary, Jim! We are so lucky to have you here.
