A company that produces and finishes stone composite countertops and sinks was having issues with product damage. The 200 to 1000 lb pieces of stone composite are difficult to maneuver during the cutting and polishing procedure, and because of this, worker safety was a major concern.

Workers had to move the slabs first to a rack for cutting, then to the polishing machines (CNC) and finally to packaging. They were using forklifts, straps, and handcarts for the operation. Not only was the process inefficient and often resulted in damage to the product, but it was extremely dangerous from an ergonomic standpoint. Risk of serious injury to workers was high.

A free standing Gorbel workstation bridge crane with a 24’ bridge was the ideal solution. The Gorbel workstation crane offered the most usable area in the location and was more affordable than I‐Beam construction. The system can also be easily modified or added on to later if needed.

The end user’s expectations were exceeded with the new system. They were skeptical at first and worried that the system would slow down the operation, but they quickly discovered that it actually made things more efficient. They have doubled their production and output, and they’re so happy with the system that they are ordering an identical unit for their new facility
