Safe workplaces are GREAT workplaces!! That is why Gorbel has chosen to participate in Safe + Sound Week, to demonstrate our commitment to the importance of safe workplaces and to celebrate the hard work that all of us do every minute, every hour, every day in pursuit of improving them. You, your coworkers, and your families rely on this commitment. Gorbel workers are our most valuable asset, your safety and well-being are important.

Gorbel®’s focus on safety is sincere, communicated at all levels of the business, and supported by actions. Your safety is as important as business success, meaning that the steps all of us take to work safe and improve our work environments is valued throughout the organization. Although strong safety performance must be supported within the organization, our commitment to safety is actually demonstrated by the collective behaviors of you, the individual employees. Every employee’s personal commitment to safety dramatically affects outcomes of the company and carries consequences not only for yourself, but for your coworkers as well. During Safe + Sound Week, the Safety Team challenges you to consider elevating your commitment to being safe at work and home. Below are four behaviors that we would like you to consider to strengthen your commitment.

  • Support Safety Initiatives and Participate: Know what the safety initiatives are in your department or elsewhere in the organization and learn more about them. Once you’ve become familiar with these activities consider how your skills and/or knowledge could contribute towards improving or resolving these challenges.
  • Plan for Safety: Incorporate safety into your daily work roles and responsibilities. Organizations that eliminate or reduce hazards by planning ahead generally improve their workplace safety and save money in the long run. For example, an organization that anticipates a hazard up front and eliminates it before it is encountered will often save money through reduced training costs, less need for personal protective equipment, and the savings associated with fewer workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Lead by Example: Companies with extraordinary safety programs have people that are engaged in safety, who recognize the importance of HSE performance to the bottom line, and support HSE efforts as part of their goal to be a world-class operation.
  • Recognize Safe Behaviors or Contributions: Safety doesn’t happen by accident. When you observe someone making safe choices acknowledge their behavior and communicate appreciation on behalf of yourself and the organization.
Commitment is when you walk the walk. It's what makes safety practices meaningful rather than mechanical. It's what inspires employees to contribute personally to workplace safety.
